Be The Match!

No it's not what you're thinking!  I'm not pimping for Match.com.  (Although I could use a kindly middle aged companion.)  What I really want to talk to you about today is Be The Match

Be the Match is the campaign name for the  National Marrow Donor Program.  I just got a reminder to update my contact information today and I thought I'd also take the time to put the word out there about this important program.

For years I haven't been able to give blood, due to some medications I have to take.  It always made me feel kinda bad whenever I'd hear the pleas for donors, knowing I couldn't participate. So I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I could be a bone marrow donor.  Having had several friends who have needed bone marrow transplants, I was more than happy to register. So if you're like me and want to pay it forward, please consider becoming a donor. The test is simple and painless.  So far I haven't been called on to donate, but if needed, my participation could mean the difference between life and death some day for someone out there.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled program...

I always wondered how they extract bone marrow? It sounds so painful. I need to read about it.

My blood is in the pool for bone marrow. I have never had a call. I put it in about 8 years ago
